Kendall Planning + Design provided project management services and technical assistance throughout this Church renovation and expansion project. Initial tasks included a cost and feasiblity study of several building options study for three parcels owned by the church, followed by preparation of Conditional Use Permit and Variance applications to accommodate expansion and shared parking with a nearby hospital. KPD developed and monitored a Parking and Transportation Demand Management Plan to document decreases in single occupant auto use by church attendees and successful utilization of the parking garage, bus, carpool, bikes and walking. KPD documented key features of the historically significant church building and managed design and construction of renovation to a 1913 bungalow for religious education and office use. Alison Kendall, LEED AP, KPD Principal, worked closely with the church’s Green Sanctuary Committee to explore and integrate green building features throughout Phase 1. Using the LEED Checklist, multiple opportunities for green features equivalent to approximately Silver Certification were identified. However, the church decided not to pursue a LEED certification, and instead to devote savings in energy modeling and certification costs to incorporating additional green features within the building and landscape design. KPD prepared a successful Sustainable Landscape Grant to incorporate water conserving landscape features.
